Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to popular questions about thermal transfer ribbons

What types of thermal transfer ribbons do you offer?

We offer three types of ribbons: wax (for paper labels), resin (for films, most durable) and wax-resin (universal). We advise selection for your labels.

How to choose a ribbon for labels?

For paper labels - wax or wax-resin ribbon. For PP/PE films - resin ribbon. As a label manufacturer in Tychy, we offer comprehensive advice and material selection.

What widths and lengths of ribbons do you have?

We offer ribbons in widths from 40mm to 220mm and lengths of 74m, 100m, 300m, 450m. We also cut to size for specific printers.

Do ribbons fit my printer?

Our ribbons are compatible with Zebra, TSC, Godex, Honeywell, Citizen, Sato and other printers. Provide the printer model, and we will select the appropriate core and spool.

What is the durability of resin ribbon printing?

Resin ribbon printing on film is resistant to temperature (-40°C to +150°C), chemicals, abrasion and UV. Durability even up to 10+ years in harsh conditions.

How quickly will you process the order?

Standard sizes are processed in 5-7 business days. Express mode - 48 hours. Fast delivery in Silesia, in Tychy personal pickup is possible.

Thermal Transfer Ribbons – Complete Selection Guide

WAX, WAX/RESIN, RESIN – choosing the right ribbon for your printer and application

WAX Ribbons – Economy Choice for Paper

WAX ribbons (also called "Wax", "W", "Wax Thermal Transfer") are the most affordable category - ideal for printing on paper labels in dry indoor environments. They melt at relatively low temperatures (approximately 80-85°C), which extends printhead life and allows high-speed printing up to 300 mm/s. Print durability is 6-12 months in normal warehouse conditions but wax prints are sensitive to scratching, oils, solvents, and high temperatures. Common applications: shipping labels (100×150 mm), retail scale labels, internal warehouse labels, receipts and reports. Compatible with all major printers: Zebra ZD/ZT, TSC, SATO, Godex, Honeywell. Widths from 25 mm to 220 mm, lengths 74-450 m. Typical cost per 1000 labels: €1.20-2.50.

WAX/RESIN Ribbons – Universal Performance

WAX/RESIN hybrid ribbons combine wax's printability with resin's durability - a practical choice for mixed-media production. They print well on paper, coated paper, and most PP films. Melting temperature 85-90°C, speed up to 250 mm/s. Print durability 2-3 years with moderate resistance to scratching, mild chemicals, and smudging. Common applications: product labels on FMCG packaging, cosmetic labels, pharmaceutical barcodes, logistics labels subject to multiple handling, outdoor-suitable labels with moderate UV. Many customers standardize on WAX/RESIN to simplify inventory - one ribbon type covers 80% of applications. Typical cost per 1000 labels: €2.00-4.00.

RESIN Ribbons – Maximum Durability

RESIN ribbons (also "Resin", "R", "Pure Resin") are the professional choice for demanding industrial applications on synthetic films (PP, PE, PET). Higher melting point (95-110°C) requires more printhead energy but delivers prints that survive 5-10 years and resist harsh environments: chemicals and solvents (isopropanol, acetone, gasoline, brake fluid), high temperatures up to +300°C (short-term) or +150°C (continuous), UV radiation for outdoor applications, mechanical abrasion in packaging lines and shipping. Essential for: automotive parts (UL, VDA 4902, ISO 9001), electronics (RoHS/REACH labels, PCB labels, cable identification), medical devices (UDI per FDA 21 CFR 830), chemical drum labels (BS 5609, GHS/CLP compliance), aerospace components. Typical cost per 1000 labels: €4.00-8.00.

Ribbon Sizing: Width, Length, Core, Winding

Four critical parameters must match your printer and label specifications. Width: the ribbon must be equal to or wider than the label - common widths are 25, 33, 40, 50, 60, 83, 110, 125, 165, and 220 mm. Length: depends on printer capability - desktop printers (Zebra ZD, TSC DA) accept 74 m or 110 m rolls, industrial printers (Zebra ZT, SATO CL4NX) accept 300, 360, or 450 m rolls. Core size: 0.5" (12.7 mm) or 1" (25.4 mm) - verify with your printer model. Winding direction: "coated side in" (CSI, ink-in) or "coated side out" (CSO, ink-out) - most Zebra, Datamax, and TSC printers use CSI, while some SATO and Intermec models use CSO. Always verify with the printer documentation before ordering. We stock both winding directions.

Print Quality Optimization

Perfect print quality requires proper printer configuration and ribbon selection. Matching ribbon to label: paper labels → WAX or WAX/RESIN; PP film → WAX/RESIN or RESIN; PE/PET film → RESIN only. Print speed and darkness: slower speed + higher darkness = better barcode quality but shorter printhead life; typical optimum is 100-150 mm/s at darkness 8-12 (of 15). Printhead pressure: balance to avoid excessive wear; check manufacturer recommendations. Thermal management: printers running 24/7 benefit from premium ribbons with high-temperature resins that protect the printhead. Storage: keep unused ribbons sealed, at 20-25°C and 40-60% humidity for up to 24 months; avoid direct sunlight.
